From 9 to 11 October, the Academia Europaea welcomes its members to its annual meeting in Munich, Bavaria.#

We invite you to experience this three-day event from 9-11 October. The days will be filled with activities and a striking series of presentations by global and European experts on topics ranging across the intellectual spectrum of the Academy itself. The classes of Humanities, Social Sciences, Exact Sciences and Life Sciences will meet separately on 9 October and then in an academy-wide plenary on 10-11 October.

New members will be especially welcome and will be inducted on the evening of 10 October.

Guided tour through the Deutsches Museum

The “Deutsches Museum” is an excellent place for imparting scientific and technical education and for a constructive dialogue between science and society. Founded in 1903, it was one of the first and, with 66,000 square meters of exhibition space, is the largest science and technology museum in the world. Its unique collection of original exhibits makes the “Deutsches Museum” a leading international location for technical and scientific culture.

This guided tour gives an overview of several sections and the highlights in the museum.

Tour 2: 10 October at 10:30 am

Guided tour through the Alte Pinakothek

»Milestones of European Painting« – In a unique concentration of artworks, the ALTE PINAKOTHEK presents the development of art from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance and the Baroque up to the end of the Rococo period. The collection comprises more than 700 artworks from the glittering epochs of German, Flemish, Netherlandish, French, Italian and Spanish painting. Leo von Klenze’s neoclassical building (completed in 1836), groundbreaking for European museum architecture at the time, provides the setting for this treasure trove of occidental art.

Tour 3: 10 October at 2:00 pm

Exclusive city tour through the old town of Munich by “Weis(s)er Stadtvogel München”.

The route is spontaneously adapted to the respective local conditions by the city guide. A possible selection: Marienplatz - Alter Peter - Viktualienmarkt - Alter Hof - Dallmayr - Hofbräuhaus - Cathedral - Residence - Odeonsplatz.

An entertaining and not merely historical tour.

Duration: 1,5 to 2 hours
